Paint-making Set-up: Here my table in Willamette University’s art building is covered with pigments and other paint-making supplies. I am preparing to make paint from lapis lazuli pigment, a semi-precious stone that was prized for the beauty of its blue. I have not yet put on gloves or mask. This particular day saw upper 90-degree temperatures outside, and my room was very nearly as warm.
